Archetype Sage Advice

My fourth of five

The fourth and final cigar (out of the five blend family) of Archetype cigars I enjoyed this summer was the Sage Advice

Ventura Cigar (maker of the Psycho, Cuban Rejects and other brands) teamed up with several household brands to blend five cigars. This line, know as the Archetype, was inspired by 2 people; Dr. Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. Dr. Jung is the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who determined that archetypes are recurring images you see in your dreams. Campbell was a college professor who worked on comparative mythology and used the Archetype in telling stories themed with a hero’s journey.

The All Seeing Eye

Two versions of the Archetypes that I smoked were manufactured at Drew Estate in Esteli Nicaragua (Initiation and Axis Mundi). Oettinger Davidoff AG produced the remaining three blends; one at the Agroindustria LAEPE S.A./Camacho factory in Honduras (Strange Passage) and the remaining two at the Occidental Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic (Dreamstate and Sage Advice).

Once more, Ventura has crafted a very nice blend although it comes in only three sizes compared to four at Drew Estate. They are a 5 ¼ x 54 Robusto, 6 x 52 Toro and a 6 x 60 Gordo. Prices range from about $11 to $13 a stick.

This band is a sky blue with an “all seeing” eye in the middle of a circle.

The wrapper is a Proprietary Habano Hybrid and the binder is a San Vincente Dominican tobacco. However, and typical of many Ventura cigars, the filler is left for your imagination.

My thoughts

I don’t smoke a lot of Davidoff cigars, but this cigar had the typical grassy notes of one. There was sharp pepper it was full bodied and loaded with flavor. Cigar and Spirits thought highly of the Sage Advise giving it a 92 rating.

As with all of the Archetypes, there is something for everyone.

I have not smoked the Dreamscape yet but I can tell you with certainty there is a cigar for every smoker in the Archetype family. Profiles range from medium bodied to full, from grassy to pepper, chocolate to coffee, leather and spice.

Smoke them all and enjoy the full range of quality and diversity offered by a crafty collaboration from the finest cigar producers on earth.

Take your own “Hero’s Journey”.
